Hill get a Case of the Blues at Brighton

Another 'what could have been' game away at Brighton left league honours even between the two sides.

Despite a short pre-match preparation, Hill 1st XV went into the half time break in the lead with tries from flanker Jon Philpott and scrum half Karl Atkinson.

However Hill found it difficult to get into the game in the second half with the referee awarding more than 10 concurrent penalties to the home side.

Hill's never say die attitude came to the fore once again with Jon Philpott scoring from a strong run along the touchline. Brighton were able to kill the fightback though when their wing scored a great intercept try, scooping up a dropped ball before it could roll into touch and outpacing the hill defence from inside his own half.

Man of the match went to Jon Philpott who, as well as scoring two tries, was competing for the ball at nearly every breakdown.

DoD was shared by player coach Owain Jenkins and captain Richard Meredith. After both lectured on the importance of discipline, the former was sin binned in the dying minutes and the latter added to the penalty woes by choosing the wrong time to question the ref!

Final Score: Brighton II's 30; Burgess Hill 17 Try Scorers: Karl Atkinson (1); Jon Philpott (2) Cons: Owain Jenkins (1)
