A full squad of 22 players travelled to Jersey over the weekend for the away league fixture against Jersey Royals. The high spirited all black team departed Burgess Hill at stupid o’clock in the morning for the outbound flight and had a several hours to kill on the channel island, so enjoyed a pre-game posh breakfast at the local garden centre.
The game kicked off at the home of the Jersey Reds, with a massive home crowd for the Royals, but the boys in black were supported by loud contingent of 22 die-hard BHRFC supporters who also travelled out for the weekend.
BHRFC started confidently having taken the home win in November, but soon conceded the first points. The Royals took a 5-0 lead, following an unconverted try, which was shortly reduced to 5-3 following a beautifully struck penalty by Rawbin. A second try by Royals was matched by a try by Dronfield and subsequent conversion by Rawbin. The Royals closed out the first half 15-10.
The second half began in the same manner as the first, with a fiercely contested battle, which saw a total of 3 yellow card for the Royals over a 30 min period.
The physicality of the game eventually saw one final unconverted try for the Royals and a number of injuries for the All Blacks resulting in the final whistle blowing with a 20-10 loss for the die hard All Blacks.
The All Blacks were well hosted by the Royals, where there was plenty of beers, tears of laughter and sing songs from the Burgess Hill contingent. Dom Jennings and Kyle Tucker jointly celebrated as MoM for Hill.
Thanks to all the wives, girlfriends, kids, parents, siblings and supporters who flew out for the game.
