Burgess Hill Rugby Club (BHRFC) is fostering the next generation of rugby stars with a schools outreach program aimed at Year 7 boys.

The initiative brought together students from St. Paul's Catholic College and The Burgess Hill Academy for a fun-filled session of learning rugby skills and an introduction to its unique game values "TREDS" Code of Rugby: Teamwork • Respect • Enjoyment • Discipline • Sportsmanship.

BHRFC hosted the two schools on a sunny afternoon at the club on Monday and offered Year 7 boys a chance to:

Discover Rugby: Experienced BHRFC coaches introduced the fundamentals of the game through engaging game zones using modified laws from Clayesmore school's innovative "third game" concept and skills zones.

Develop Skills: Participants learned basic passing, tackling and contact skills, and footwork techniques in a supportive environment.

Build Teamwork: Rugby is all about collaboration. The program emphasises working together, communication, and sportsmanship, fostering valuable skills that extend beyond the pitch.

A spokesperson for Burgess Hill RFC commented:

"We're passionate about rugby and believe it can teach valuable life lessons. This outreach program is a fantastic opportunity to introduce young people to the sport in a fun and inclusive way. We hope to spark a lifelong love for the game and nurture the next generation of rugby players."

Building Bridges Through Rugby

The program goes beyond just teaching rugby. It brings together students from different schools, fostering friendships and a sense of community. This is a great opportunity for boys to meet new people, challenge themselves, and have a positive sporting experience.

Information for Parents and Schools

If you are interested in learning more about the Burgess Hill RFC, please contact the club directly through their website or social media channels. The program is a fantastic way for schools to introduce rugby to their students and promote the benefits of teamwork and sportsmanship.

The count down is now on until women’s rugby takes centre stage as England hosts Rugby World Cup 2025, and BHRFC will target Girls rugby in its next outreach work.
