Sussex All Blacks had a 2 week break from league fixtures and the coaching staff required some match time for the Burgess Hill outfit, which allowed the coaches to assess the new signings and second team players to offer options into the first XV.
Burgess Hill hosted Hellingly in a friendly match. A mixed SAB side took to the field with no preconceived ideas on what or how Hellingly will play.
To be fair to the visiting side, it took 18m minutes until the SAB's opened their account with a try from Fergus Collins crashing over the try line. The conversion was not successful...5 -0 to Hill.
Returning player Jennings, who stepped into the nine position then showed some individual flair and added a further try to the tally, the conversion was added. 12-0 to the home side.
Then there was a slight lull in play, with both sides offering line breaks and some fantastic skills shown by all involved.
Hill then pushed closer to the opposition try line and the back line surging forward....a close quarter run from second team skipper Michael Grimes saw him add to the score board. The conversion was added....19-0
Half time was called and the days captain, Kyle Tucker had some chat with the team and the second half commenced.
The scrum half, Jennings was not to be silenced and he opened the second half account with another try, new fly half Dan Sinclair slotted the extras..26-0.
Hellingly looked dangerous at times and consistently gained ground and position within the Burgess Hill half. Unfortunately no scores were added.
New signing for Hill, Harry Clegg was brought on in the back row, with Joe Brown stepping on the field too.
Centre, Charlie Coles with his direct running style saw him dive in for a try and the conversion was added....33-0 to Hill.
As the game was drawing to a conclusion, a break from this seasons new signing Jack Morrison saw him dive in under the sticks and Ben Dewey slotted the extras with a cheeky drop goal conversion!!!!
40-0 to Hill.
We would all like to thank Hellingly Rugby Club for coming down to play. We wish them all the very best with their season.
Thanks goes to all the guys who turned out for the home side.
